William G. Smith, Private Wealth and Corporate & Tax Shareholder, Elected Officer of Jones Foster

Jones Foster is pleased to announce that Private Wealth, Trusts & Estates and Corporate & Tax Shareholder William G. Smith, LL.M. has been elevated to an Officer of the firm.

“Since joining the firm after completing an LL.M. in taxation from the University of Florida, Bill has distinguished himself as a trusted legal advisor with a deep knowledge of tax law and sophisticated estate planning,” said Private Wealth and Tax Practice Group Leader David E. Bowers. “Bill is highly skilled in listening to clients, understanding their unique situation, and developing solutions to assist the family in meeting their goals. His promotion to Officer is a testament to his capability, patience, and dedication to his clients.”

Bill concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, taxation, and transactional corporate law.

Utilizing a spectrum of simple to complex strategies such as trust structures, Bill works with individual clients and families to create a customized plan for the current or future transfer of assets to minimize federal gift taxes, estate taxes, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) taxes. He provides counsel to businesses, private foundations, and charities in matters that include business succession planning, transfers of business interests, LLC and S corporation creation, governance documents, mergers, and Treasury Regulation compliance. In addition, he works with out-of-state attorneys on issues involving income tax, real property, state filing requirements, residency, charitable trust modifications, and ancillary probate administration.

Bill is actively involved in several community and industry organizations. He currently serves as president of The Kiwanis Club of West Palm Beach Foundation; a committee member of The Florida Bar’s Legislative & Regulations Committee; and Assistant Director, Education for The Florida Bar Tax Section. Previously, he was president of the East Coast Estate Planning Council and The Kiwanis Club of West Palm Beach, as well as a Board Member of the Planned Giving Council of Palm Beach County.

Bill was recognized on Palm Beach Illustrated’s 2022 “Top Lawyers” peer-review list in the category of Tax Law.
