About Lucia
Lucia DeFilippo focuses her practice on probate, trust, and business litigation and is a member of Jones Foster’s Trust and Estate Litigation and Complex Litigation teams.
Lucia represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in trust and probate disputes involving removal of trustees and personal representatives, petitions to compel accountings, and challenges to estate planning documents based on allegations of incapacity and undue influence. She also counsels clients on a variety of complex business litigation matters, including partition actions, breach of contract disputes, appeals, and settlement negotiations. Lucia has represented contractors and homeowners in construction-related disputes involving construction liens and arbitration proceedings before the American Arbitration Association.
Prior to joining the firm, Lucia served as an Assistant State Attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit, where she tried more than 30 jury trials. Her responsibilities included conducting jury selection (voir dire), opening statements, witness examinations, plea negotiations, and pretrial motion practice, including motions to suppress and motions in limine. This extensive trial experience provides Lucia’s clients with valuable insight into courtroom strategy, case evaluation, and practical considerations throughout all stages of litigation.
An active member of The Florida Bar’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law (RPPTL) Section, Lucia was selected to participate in its prestigious Fellowship Program, a two-year professional development initiative designed to develop future section leaders through committee involvement and substantive work. She also serves on the Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Estate/Probate CLE Committee and is a member of the Palm Beach County Hispanic Bar Association. Lucia is a 2026 graduate of the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches’ Leadership West Palm Beach program.
Lucia graduated summa cum laude with a Juris Doctor degree from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. During her studies, Lucia gained valuable experience as a judicial intern for the Honorable Darrin P. Gayles of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She also interned with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida and served as a Certified Legal Intern with the Office of the State Attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit.
