Jones Foster, a 100-year-old commercial and private client law firm, is pleased to announce that shareholder Roberto M. Vargas has been elected president of the board of directors at HomeSafe, a local nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive programming to assist victims of child abuse and domestic violence.
As board president, Mr. Vargas will facilitate and preside at board meetings, guide board members in strategic decision-making, and assist in fundraising initiatives that will support HomeSafe’s lifesaving programs. Mr. Vargas is a longtime advocate of HomeSafe and was first elected to the board in 2009. This new leadership role marks his second term as president, a position in which he previously served from 2014 to 2016.
HomeSafe is dedicated to protecting Palm Beach County’s and South Florida’s most vulnerable residents – victims of child abuse and domestic violence. Its mission is to create safer, more productive lives for infants, children, young adults, and families through key programs, such as therapy services to treat severe trauma, immediate intervention and prevention services for individuals and families suffering from abuse, and affordable housing for clients who have “aged out” of foster care.
Mr. Vargas is co-chair of Jones Foster’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution team and practices statewide in the areas of complex commercial litigation, business torts, real property litigation, and eminent domain. He advises local and national clients on a variety of business disputes, including trade secrets, confidentiality agreements, noncompete agreements, business contracts, tortious interference, and breaches of fiduciary duties. He also advises property owners throughout Florida in all eminent domain-related proceedings. Mr. Vargas practices before Florida state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels.
In addition to his roles at HomeSafe, Mr. Vargas is actively involved in industry and legal organizations, serving as a member of the Association of Eminent Domain Professionals and The Florida Bar’s Eminent Domain Committee. He previously served as chair of The Florida Bar's Standing Committee on Professionalism and as a member of the Civil Procedure Rules Committee and Rules of Judicial Administration Committee. Mr. Vargas is a Fellow of the Florida Bar Foundation and an emeritus member of the Craig S. Barnard American Inns of Court.
Additionally, Mr. Vargas is a 2006 graduate of the Leadership Palm Beach County (LPBC) Engage Program, designed to unite and educate the county’s most promising leaders. He has since held leadership roles within the organization, including as a member of LPBC’s Board of Governors and as a past chair of LPBC’s Grow program. He is consistently recognized in peer-review industry publications, such as Florida Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America, and Palm Beach Illustrated’s “Top Lawyers.”
