Jones Foster, a commercial and private client law firm with offices in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, and Jupiter, Florida, is proud to announce that private wealth and tax attorney Richard C. Vaughan has been selected this year as one of only three attorneys statewide to participate in The Florida Bar Tax Section’s New Tax Lawyers Fellowship Program. This three-year initiative is focused on the education, mentorship, and leadership development of emerging tax law professionals.
As a Fellow, Richard will receive an annual stipend and waived registration fees to attend section meetings and events. The program also provides valuable opportunities to serve on Tax Section committees, contribute to publications, and participate in continuing legal education (CLE) presentations, according to the Tax Section. Fellows’ responsibilities and section involvement increase with each year.
As part of the program, Fellows also participate in Fellowship Sessions – “roundtable” discussions with members of the Tax Section that focus on various topics. During the first year, these sessions are centered on mentorship and gaining additional insight into the Tax Section. Each Fellow is paired with a mentor who will guide their development and engagement within the section.
The Fellowship Program was established by the New Tax Lawyers Committee to attract and retain young tax attorneys by encouraging their active engagement in section work. To be eligible for the Fellowship Program, Tax Section members must be 35 years old or younger or in practice for fewer than 10 years, and complete an application process to be reviewed by the Fellowship Selection Committee.
An active member of The Florida Bar Tax Section, Richard currently serves on the Transfer Tax Subcommittee of the Section’s Washington D.C. Committee, where he co-authored peer-reviewed White Papers—proposals for legislative and regulatory reform—submitted to and presented before federal agencies and congressional delegations.
Richard Vaughan is a member of Jones Foster’s Private Wealth, Wills, Trusts & Estates and Corporate & Tax teams and concentrates his practice in estate planning, trust and estate administration, business planning, and transactional corporate law. He develops comprehensive estate plans for individuals and families to efficiently preserve their assets, including the use of revocable and irrevocable trusts, and handles all aspects of estate and trust administration from probate matters to estate and gift tax return preparation. He also assists clients with structuring and maintaining tax exempt organizations and charitable gift planning.
Richard is experienced in creating and maintaining corporate structures within the context of a client’s estate plan, including drafting operating agreements, buy-sell agreements, entity restructuring, and related agreements among shareholders and partners. He provides personalized solutions to meet his clients’ business succession goals.
In addition to his active Tax Section involvement, Richard serves on the Philanthropic Advisory Council (PAC) of the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties and is an active member of the Palm Beach County Estate Planning Council.
Richard graduated from the University of Memphis Cecil C.
