Jones Foster Attorney Alexander M. Parthemer Talks Estate Planning as Part of Prudential Financial Seminar Series

Jones Foster estate planning and tax attorney Alexander M. Parthemer, LL.M., served as the guest speaker during a series of luncheon seminars for business and financial professionals hosted by the West Palm Beach Prudential Financial Team. The events took place in February and March in Palm Beach Gardens and Boca Raton and were focused on strategies to safeguard assets and address critical estate planning needs.

Alex’s presentation, “The Estate Planning Path: Protect, Preserve, Plan” offered actionable insights on protecting wealth, minimizing vulnerabilities, and other considerations for cultivating a comprehensive estate plan in an ever-changing legal and financial landscape. Key questions discussed included:

  • Why doesn’t a revocable living trust protect you from estate taxes?
  • With estate and gift tax exemptions set to be cut in half in 2026, what can you do now to take care of your current exemption, so you’re not negatively affected when it decreases?
  • What can business owners do to help protect their intangible assets, such as intellectual property?
  • What financial products are exempt from creditors under Florida law?
  • What is the difference between asset protection and estate planning?

Alex also discussed the role of life insurance in estate planning; how probate and non-probate assets are inherited and distributed; revocable trusts (living trusts); the basics of a will, power of attorney (POA), health care surrogate, and living will; the importance of HIPAA authorization; as well as the significant benefits of being a Florida resident.
