Jones Foster Tax Attorneys Analyze Florida’s Community Property Trust Act in Florida Bar Tax Bulletin
Jones Foster Private Wealth and Tax attorneys Alexander M. Parthemer, LL.M., and Richard C. Vaughan, LL.M., co-authored an article in The Florida Bar Tax Section Bulletin’s Summer 2025 issue titled “Unlocking the Step-Up: Florida’s Community Property Trust Act and the Double Basis Opportunity," featured on pages 6 to 8.
In the piece, Mr. Parthemer and Mr. Vaughan examine the benefits and complexities of Florida’s Community Property Trust Act (FCPTA), which offers married couples potential tax advantages through community property treatment. They also address key estate planning considerations and the broader implications for wealth management professionals.
The topic of Community Property Trusts was also the subject of one of several co-authored peer-reviewed White Papers — proposals for legislative and regulatory reform — submitted to and presented before federal agencies and congressional delegations during The Florida Bar Tax Section's Transfer Tax Subcommittee's trip to Washington, D.C. Mr. Parthemer co-authored and presented on the paper, "Request for Tax Guidance on Community Property Trusts."
