David E. Bowers, Featured Speaker at The Florida Bar Tax Section Virtual Seminar

Shareholder David E. Bowers, head of Jones Foster’s Corporate & Tax and Private Wealth, Trusts & Estates practice groups, was a featured speaker at The Florida Bar Tax Section’s 2020 fall meeting.

The four-day virtual gathering included committee and division meetings, networking events, and a full day of continuing legal education (CLE) presentations by leaders in the field on the topic of “Practical Estate Planning in Uncertain Times”.

David’s presentation entitled “Use of Trusts After SECURE” addressed a variety of timely issues, including the new rules under the SECURE Act and their impact on retirement distributions; tax benefits for retirement assets under the CARES Act; and tax treatment of loan amounts forgiven under the Paycheck Protection Program.

David is a Florida Bar Board Certified specialist in Tax with over thirty years’ experience in complex tax, trusts and estates, and business planning with extensive experience in estate planning, pension and profit-sharing plans, non-qualified deferred compensation plans, and business transactions.

David brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership ability to his role as a Florida Tax Institute board member and as chair of the University of Florida Law Center Association’s Alumni Tax Advisory Committee. He served as past chair of The Florida Bar Tax Section, the Palm Beach Tax Institute, and The Florida Bar Tax Law Certification Committee.

Consistently selected by his peers for recognition in his field, David is ranked in Best Lawyers in America and Florida Super Lawyers publications and was the recipient of the 2016 Gerald T. Hart Outstanding Florida Tax Attorney of the Year Award by The Florida Bar in honor of his major contributions to the advancement of the practice of tax law.
