Jones Foster Chairman Scott Hawkins Comments on Judge William Matthewman’s Appointment as Chief Magistrate Judge

U.S. Magistrate Judge William Matthewman has been appointed Chief Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, succeeding Judge Jonathan Goodman upon his retirement.

Jones Foster Chairman Scott G. Hawkins, who has appeared before Judge Matthewman, praised his contributions to electronic discovery law in a Daily Business Review article, noting that his scholarship “set the gold standard” for managing electronically stored information in litigation.

Known for his distinguished career spanning law enforcement, criminal defense, and the judiciary, Judge Matthewman will oversee the district’s magistrate judges and serve as liaison to the district court. His priorities include advocating for judicial security and preserving judicial independence.
