The Palm Beach Post: Jones Foster’s Thomas J. Baird, Jupiter Town Attorney, on Suni Sands Settlement
Jones Foster Land Use Shareholder Thomas J. Baird, a Florida Bar Board Certified City, County, and Local Government attorney, is featured in a January 2026 article by The Palm Beach Post for his role as Jupiter Town Attorney in negotiating, on behalf of the Jupiter Town Council, a $10.5 million settlement agreement involving the long-disputed Suni Sands site along the Loxahatchee River. The agreement follows years of legal proceedings and public debate surrounding the development and preservation of the approximately 10-acre waterfront property near the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse.
In the article, Mr. Baird provided insight into the legal process and next steps, noting that the property owner’s future development plans will be subject to the Town’s standard council review process.
Under the agreement, the Town will acquire and preserve historically significant portions of the property, including a four-acre shell midden and other archaeological areas tied to Native American history. In total, more than half of the site will remain preserved as open space.
